JESUS (4 of 8) ON THE MOUNTAIN

Peter, James and John join Jesus at Mount Hermon to pray.

They quickly drift off to sleep because awake they could not stay.

Jesus prayed for strength to endure the suffering awaiting Him.

May even have thought of returning to Heaven

knowing His future was to be so grim.

Jesus faced many temptations  but now He faces the tortures of the cross.

But Jesus stayed and endured Calvary so our souls would not be a loss.

The sadness of these moments makes one sit down and cry.

The message Jesus got across is for us He must suffer and die.

To the disciples on the mountain a new image to them Jesus did bring.

They did not see that the road to glory passed through a tunnel of suffering.

Jesus asked his disciples to follow him. This tunnel connects this life to the next.

All must stoop to enter and leaving all behind is the gist of this memorable text.

A glimpse of glory on the other side is light at the end of the tunnel called Transfiguration.

The way to glory is not around suffering but through it.

Joy is not found in the detour but in the destination.
