Retrun to Embracing the Rain Poetry

THANK YOU GOD FOR NOT-Richard E. Funnell

While counting my blessing one day I wrote these words into a poem.

So thankful I can get to church instead of being a shut-in at home.

It is so easy to say a blessing when sitting at the table to eat.

But not easy to visit a shut-in or testify to a stranger on the street.

Often I forget to thank God for beautiful flowers that grow.

Most often neglect to give thanks when I see a water fall flow.

Cannot recall ever saying thanks for the privilege of prayer.

God answered so many and with others I often forget to share.

My heart goes out to those who from homes cannot leave.

Walking across the room is all they can achieve.

We think our burdens are tougher than ones our neighbors bear.

The grass always looks greener “over there.”

In my mind I used to think walking in my neighbor’s shoes would be a breeze.

But after close examination this I pray while on bended knees.

God, today I want to say thanks that for me you did NOT choose

to have me walk a single step in my neighbor’s shoes. “

Our love for Christ is only as real as our love for our neighbor
