Though
My Righteousness is as filthy rags, the Maker of my soul brings mercies
new each morning. Lyrics from her song, The Lion were written out of her
own realization all that is good in her in this world is due to God's
unsurpassable mercy. Recently as a new mom and the wife of a church
planter, Kim is discovering the power of prayer and how God will
accomplish His plans, despite herself. She finds the joy of ministry in
serving and loving the people God has placed in her life, whether in a
concert hall, at an intimate women's retreat, or at home. Kim recently
recorded her third project in Nashville with Producer John Pisciotta.
She co-wrote with John and his wife Robin (AKA Robin Welty), and they
came up with the song, "Call Me Crazy". John also produced Kim's song
"The Lion" - a fan favorite. Both of these singles are being added to
radio rotations Nationwide since the October 2005 release. Kim's sound
has been compared to the mainstream band No Doubt and to CCM artists
Leigh Nash and Natalie Grant. She currently resides in California with
her husband Rob, 3 year old son Nathaniel, and 6 month-old daughter,
Keira. Though My Righteousness is as filthy rags, the Maker of my soul

ETR: Who inspired you the
most to go into Christian music?
Kim: I believe it must have began with my
friend who shared Christ with me when we were 13. She also introduced me
to Amy Grant, Evie, Randy Stonehill, Steve Taylor and Leslie Phillips.
Those artists inspired me to want to be a Singer/Songwriter, sharing my
faith through my music.
ETR: Who is your favorite Christian performer?
Kim: Currently, I like Todd Agnew and Sarah Groves.
ETR: What
do you think is the greatest obstacle facing young women in today's
society?
Kim: I believe there are a great deal of
unrealistic expectations that have been thrust onto women, and also that
women place on themselves. Expectations to be thin, beautiful, smart,
career-oriented, great mothers, SINGLE mothers... really it is
exhausting! And it begins as early as preschool!
ETR: How do you seek to help those who are
hurting through your music?
Kim: As I share my songs and my stories with people, my prayer is
that the people I am serving will be touched by the power of the Holy
Spirit. I truly believe if the Spirit is not filling me and leading me
through a concert or a recording, it will be fruitless. The Holy Spirit
can minister to the hurting because He knows the deepest part of every
heart. I rely on Him to do the healing and the real "work" in people's
lives. My music and my stories are simply tools He can use to reach out
to people.
ETR: How has your testimony affected your
career?
Kim: My testimony of how God led me to become a pastor's wife
even when I resisted has been something God has had me share the most
lately. I believe God allowed me to learn some hard lessons, because He
knew how many people would be able to relate. We songwriters are always
writing out of our experiences, so the ongoing testimonies in my life
are all played out in songs as well!
ETR: What is your favorite bible scripture and
how has it influenced you?
Kim: Zephaniah 3:14-17 I like the picture this passage gives me
of the Lord, the way He loves me. Sometimes it is difficult for me to
remember that He really loves me. It is a stretch for my mind to grasp
how He loves me more than I love my own children, yet of course He does.
ETR: What is your favorite song you have
recorded and why?
Kim: My favorite is The Lion. I believe it is
the best job I have done yet of giving God complete glory in a song.
I always want to do a better job writing the next song, but that song
turned out pretty good.
ETR: Where do you hope to be
in 10 years?
Kim: Well, let's see... I will have a 14 yr old, a 12 yr old and
a 10 yr old. Ideally I would love to be able to home school my kids,
nurture them in their gifts and passions, while writing and producing
emerging artists, pouring into the next generation of writers and
performers. I think it would be super fun to do a few projects with my
kids, if they end up loving music like I do.
ETR: How do you think young people are
influenced by Christian music and what do you hope to portray to them?
Kim: I hear people say they won't listen to it, (both Christians
and Non alike) because they think it is "cheesy". I would love to make
music that breaks through the barrier and reaches those who don't
normally listen to Christian music. I also pray that those Christian
young adults who DO like Christian music are encouraged and fueled by my
songs, so they can be strengthened in their own walks.
