Self
Esteem
By Debbie McMannus
How We Look at Ourselves?
According to Webster's dictionary how we look at ourselves is defined
as self esteem?
People with a high self esteem are capable of being productive in society.
They are leaders in dealing with people. Our great leaders of this country
all have high self esteem.
A person with this trait is able to state clearly who
they are, and what they are committed to in life.
They are goal oriented with a sense of balance in life.
This person knows where they have been and where they are going.
However all individuals are not so lucky to feel this way about themselves.
This individual with low self esteem may feel like others don't like them, are susceptible to fears,
are poor problem solvers, are hungry for approval of others, and are vulnerable to mental problems
such as depression. However, you have to realize that God made everything from nothing,
when you say you are nothing you are letting God know he can do something special with you.
For instance, Moses believed he did not have what it took to do the job God wanted him to do, he
thought he was incompetent. But in spite of this God used Moses and he became a great servant for
the Lord.
Now if you do experience low self esteem what can you do?
The first step is to turn towards the Lord, he will help you out of your state of trouble.
The Lord gives us certain things to make you feel better about yourself. Some of these things the Lord bestows on you are:
you are made in the image of God (Col 3:10),
you have a seat in heavenly places (Eph. 2-6-10), you are a heir of God with an inheritance in heaven. (Rom. 8:17),
and God has placed you in a body that he considers necessary and pleasing to him. (1 Cor 12:18, 22)
We all know that Satan is like a lion going to rob, steal, kill and destroy.
Now, what do you have in your hand to defeat him? Nothing but
with the power of the Spirit you can win over the issue of low self esteem.
The next step is you should stop comparing yourself to others,
stop putting yourself down, and use affirmations to boost your self esteem, and finally associate with positive supportive people.
The hurts you feel today maybe causing low self esteem,
and they are like a category 5 hurricane flooding your life.
What do you have in your hand to enable you to climb out and be
an overcomer? Nothing but the promise of God is this
"When the enemy shall come in like a flood the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him." Isiah 59:19
We shall see ourselves as God see us and treat others as as God does.
